Mullvad VPN is a VPN service run by Mullvad VPN AB, based in Gothenburg, Sweden. The service launched in March 2009, and the company is owned by its founders through the parent company Amagicom AB. Mullvad charges one flat price of EUR 5 per month.

How crypto payment works at Mullvad VPN
You don't give an email or username. Mullvad creates an account number, and crypto payments add time to that account, whether for one month or a whole year at the same rate. Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash payments get a unique receiving address, which is deleted after 20 days.

Mullvad runs its own full nodes and self-hosted wallets, with no third-party processor. It added Lightning in August 2025, on its own lnd node.
Good to know before you pay
- Crypto payments get a 10% discount, which Mullvad attributes to lower fees and less admin.
- Crypto payments aren't refunded and can't be used for account recovery (for BTC and BCH since 1 January 2023). The 14-day money-back guarantee doesn't cover them.
- Signing up needs no personal information: no username, password or email address.
- For crypto transactions Mullvad stores the amount, currency and timestamp, and cuts the timestamp to just the date after 20 days.
